This issue features articles on the topics of teaching vocabulary with revision, exploring the power of music and songs, the debate on the use of Kahoot!, how assessment fits into the future of ELT, understanding excessive L1 use through exploratory action research and beyond the false promise of ChatGPT: the potential and limitations of using ChatGPT in the English language.

Reviews

  • How to Teach with TED Talks: A Practical Guide for English Teachers by Lewis Lansford. Lansford’s book is organised into five main parts with each part further divided into units, making it easy for educators to navigate and implement the suggested teaching methods with each section preparing a lesson for the teacher to use as a model. 
  • Trinity Teach English Online - Trinity College London. A new online course provided by the Trinity College London which focuses on a 10-module programme which can be completed within 50 hours split between self-led hours or coursework and assessment tasks.
  • Teaching English in the primary school: A task-based introduction for pre-and in-service teachers by Annika Kolb & Marita Shocker. The book is intended for preservice and novice teachers teaching English in primary schools by revising the main methodology principles and getting inspired by the variety of examples from the classroom.
  • The Art of Writing B2 - Student's Book (with DigiBooks App) by Jenny Dooley. The Art of Writing was written to assist students in learning to write
    six practical text types; emails and letters, stories and a variety of different types of essays, descriptive articles, reviews and reports. Each chapter follows a similar pattern and includes models, charts and diagrams to keep them on track, and an evaluation tool at the end.
